I am still new to make-up and people ask me why do I say that or who taught me what I know but I’m all self taught. My womanly influences did not use make up except my grandmother and she kept it real simple. Foundation. Blush. Lip stick. Eye liner. So to me make up was for women, bigger girls and famous ladies with husbands with places to go. I mean late 90s early 2000s make up wasn’t a big thing among the black girls I knew. If you wore make up you were considered fast, or too grown. So make up was a NO for me. Here’s a short story about me ….I began to take an interest from seeing other young ladies wear it in college and it not look so caked on, a more natural look. Then I stumbled upon my sister’s small travel size make up palette that she used for her color guard performances. It had a gold, bronze and a dark purple. I used the gold on my eye lids with that little sponge tip and after a few compliments I was hooked. I didn’t go over board but I was testing the waters. Fast forward some years and now I have everything I need to beat this face but nothing is more difficult than trying to beat a face that’s already under pimple attack from using dirty brushes.

Maintaining clean make up brushes is so important and when you make sure that you are cleaning them regularly your face will thank you for it with an amazing glow! Here are some ways that I clean my brushes. Please keep in mind the type of brushes that you have because I surely have cracked and damaged some brushes attempting to clean them. Oh it is the worst feeling to have been soaking brushes then wake up to them cracked because they had wooden handles.**face palm**
- I use a soak method. Dawn dish soap, water and let them sit. After a while I take them out rinse them with more soap and water then let them just soak in warm water. Thereafter I put them on a napkin and let them air dry.
- brush cleaner. I don’t use this as much as I should because it does prevent build up. Spray the brushes and wipe them off.
- Use sponges for foundation and setting powders as an alternative. Some people wash those too but I use the lil toss outs as I call them from Wal-Mart.
- . Soap (hair shampoo, Bronners Bros etc), water and alcohol. I do the same steps in #1 however I swish them around in a little alcohol as a disinfectant. I am not a make up artist so I am not sharing my brushes with the masses but its still important to be clean.
- This is a added tool but using the plastic to rub your brushed on a plastic cleaning mat.
All in all keeping clean brushes is key because they carry bacteria, dead skin and oil and if your like me I am trying out new products and mixing this and that so it is a good habit to form about cleaning your brushes regularly. All this build up can and will certainly clog up your pores. I have gone over a few methods to cleaning brushes you should see a change in your skin with less break outs, smoother application with minimal streaks. Now don’t forget the most important which is TO WASH YOUR FACE! that’s law. Being that I struggled with my skin for a long time and I’m finally seeing the glory with my skin I always wash my face and keep a good skin care routine. Drink water!
Slay that face to the gawwwds boo. Muah. xoxo
